Science is discovering medical remedies that have been known to sages for thousands of years. Things that part of ancient wisdom, that were occult (hidden) become known, visible. During the course participants will have an opportunity to discuss whether they feel phenomena presented are the product of a belief system, or based on an actual occurrence.

This course is of direct relevance to health care practitioners and policy makers, including GPs, psychiatrists, health service providers, nursing and social care staff.

Enhanced response shift

These days when so many things are being questioned, there are practitioners who feel the frameworks of knowledge derived from their clients experiences may not match the territory mapped out during their training. We know that when there is a concordance of belief due to increased cultural literacy about different frameworks of reality, there is a greater opportunity to promote a significant response shift towards healing within the client.

Exploring the human condition

The material content of the course is presented, not so that participants get intellectually caught up in the flowing cultural folds of different spiritualities, nor to adhere to one philosophy rather than another, but so that we might move beyond the topics, and beyond the spiritualities covered, to explore the human condition. The course presents cultural existential realities, and explores cultural beliefs about health, care and cure, soul and spirit, and expanded states of consciousness.

UK university curriculum

Within the UK university system, this kind of material is already offered as part of the curricula for Medical Anthropology, Psychology, Divinity and Theology. This course can fill the academic gap within Medicine and Health Care.
